The first Green Lantern Ring on Earth in modern times was crafted and worn by Alan Scott and powered by the mystical Starheart. ![]() Together, the heroes defeat Krona by using Alan Scott’s power ring against the scientist’s yellow shield. Of course, the Guardians' magic roundup was also incomplete, since there are plenty of magical types in the DCU. Scott’s Ring draws from a magical source, which is why his constructs are usually surrounded by flames. So even though Alan's ring works on magic instead of science, and is vulnerable to wood instead of yellow, he's still cousin to the Corps because the Guardians are ultimately responsible for his lantern and ring. Separated from his vessel, Scott’s soul helped Hal find Krona who, in the meantime, had taken the Guardians captive. Alan Scott’s Ring works a little differently. This was a problem for writers who had to weaken GL in some manner. Based on the willpower of the wearer they can construct almost any hard object. The mad scientist then attacked and defeated Hal Jordan in the body of the Golden Age Lantern. Green Lantern wears the most powerful weapon on his hand - the power ring. Krona, in his first comic book appearance, began his siege by taking over Scott’s body. In 1965, DC thrilled comic book readers by bringing Scott back, and writer John Broome teamed him up with Jordan to face off against the alien scientist, Krona.
